Erika Eckert is a Seattle based painter and fabric designer. After completing her Bachelor of Arts at PLU in Tacoma, she continued her studies at Lorenzo di Medici in Florence, Italy. There, she worked extensively with textiles.
She also studied in Copenhagen, Denmark with Textile Gruppen Freja. After living and working in Copenhagen for four years, Erika returned to Seattle for additional courses in the Fiber Arts Department at UW.
The energy Erika receives from nature, traveling, the urban environment (in which she, her husband and two sons live), allows her imagery to continually evolve.
Erika has fused her knowledge of painting with her expertise in working with velvets and silk screening to create suspended wall hangings and paintings using stretched velvet and silk. Over the past two years, she has returned to using acrylics while incorporating the vibrant colors and layering that she developed with her fabric pieces.
Erika’s work has been well received over the past six years in a series of shows in the Seattle Area.
